Ok folks, here’s the deal.

As you may know if you’ve been a long time listener of the station, every year about this time we go through contract negotiations with the music labels. Well, this year we don’t meet the standard minimum requirements for a renewal of the contract. So we have a choice: shut down, or work out a new deal.

Luckily for us, the labels are willing to cut us a deal. Here’s the details.

We currently have an ACTIVE roster of 5 DJs, covering 4 days a week. The labels want to see that increased to 10 DJs by March 6th, 15 DJs by April 6th, and 20 DJs by May 6th. They also want us to have AT LEAST one LIVE DJ on EVERY day.

On top of that, they want a live DJ doing the weekly top 10 Countdown show again.

Can we do that? Not currently. We need more people behind the microphones to do it. And we need them NOW.

So I’m asking you. Do you want to be a DJ? Do you love music? Do you love this station? Now’s your chance to prove it.

It’s not difficult work, and it won’t cost you anything. We supply all the software and the music. You supply your computer, your microphone, and most importantly, yourself.

It’s sink or swim time here at KJSR.net, and I’m paddling as hard as I can.

You may have heard a bit of what is happening by now. Here’s the whole story.

Some of the staff members of the station decided that they could run an internet radio station “better” than KJSR.net, and left, taking a majority of the DJs with them.

I wish them all the luck in the world, but have a feeling that they are going to fail miserably.

Also, effective December 30, the FCC is pulling the station’s funding (they’re shutting down their entire internet radio sponsorship program), leaving us in the lurch for roughly $148.53 a month. But that isn’t important. This station survived without funding before, and can do it again.

Losing this many people at once though, has gutted the station, and myself.

I’ve poured my heart and soul into the station for the last 3 years. Raised it from 20 listeners a week as a City of Heroes fan-station up to a 1000+ listener per week powerhouse. Brought on board only the best of the best. Nearly bankrupted myself many times until we got the FCC funding. And this is how I’ve been repaid. It hurts. A lot.

So, I have a very difficult decision to make. Do I try to keep the station running with very few DJs and no funding, or let the station die?

Friends, a dear listener needs your help desperately! In Betty’s own words:

Today at 4:00PM we were suppose to get my grandson Caleb El-Aayi, his mother Maya El-Aayi didn’t show up. Her mother called us and said that last night Caleb’s mom Somaya El-Aayi took him and went to the mountains for the night.

She was supposed to head back this morning and no one has been able to get hold of her. We have reason to believe that Somaya (aka: Maya, Mya) has possibly decided to run with him as we are in the middle of going back to court for more custody.

PLEASE if you hear anything of this, or see Caleb or Somaya contact the police.

He is three years old and was last seen leaving with his mother going to the mountains of Colorado.
